Andor's only chance to escape from this situation is his love Eszter, who tries to support his career as a writer. The mother does not want to know about either Andor's career or about Eszter. They are surrounded by lies which engender a sick and suffocating atmosphere. Andor desperately looks for a way out of this situation.
